So I was thinking about this texting phenomena that we were discussing in relation to the article we read for Wednesday....
And I have come to the conclusion that while the power of texting can lead to scary and uncontrollable situations in some extreme circumstances, the overall power of cell phones and texting has improved the way society works.
We have been able to cut out the uncertainty of correspondence between people and now how means of direct and almost communication. Texting and email alerts have lead to a society that can run faster, smoother, and more reliably.
What do you guys think? Agree or Disagree
I largely agree, having wide-ranging technologies like the university alert system are excellent. Although I can't help but think of those crazy gray matte mirror-portals in 1984, the ones that basically broadcast propaganda 24/7 in people's living rooms. I'd never want that level of direct, reliable correspondence and communication between me and a totalitarian government regime. Of course, with texting, we can organize a revolution on the fly, so it's all good.
ReplyDeletei strongly agree with your conclusion. technology had improved soo fast with out us thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteI also agree...I really appreciate the texting and email alerts we receive here on campus. For example, I was driving around campus when I found out that the road by the biochem building was closed due to a broken water line (i think it was water.) Regardless, I was able to avoid the problem and the backed up traffic because of the text alert. This is just one small example, but they could also be really helpful during emergencies.
ReplyDeleteI think technology will always be changing and improving too fast for us to notice. Things that happened in the last year are first starting to be noticed now. Even my online taxes had the option to have text alerts sent for any other updates.
